We’re working with York, Pa., Mayor Kim Bracey to expand her “Eat Play Breathe: York’s Childhood Wellness Initiative” program, which is educating children about the importance of balancing calories and engaging in regular physical activity as ways to achieve a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle.  Her program incorporates wellness into the mission and culture of each city school.  Specifically, the program increases nutrition education and physical activity in city schools, which will have a real and lasting impact for generations to come.  Click here to watch a video about this innovative program.

York is the first place recipient in the small city category of the 2014 Childhood Obesity Prevention Awards – a program and partnership we formed with the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM).

As we have mentioned earlier this week, September is Childhood Obesity Awareness Month.  We know that these kinds of initiatives – like our partnership with USCM – are the type of comprehensive solutions that will have a real and meaningful impact on our communities.
