Here at Sip & Savor, we’ve been making sure media outlets have our perspective on an abstract coming out today. We always think sharing the facts is important – and in this case, especially so. After all, a news release promoting the research alleges that “180,000 deaths worldwide may be associated with sugary soft drinks.” Not that we want to repeat the negative (or untruths in this case), but really? Sounds like scare tactics to us …
Here’s what you need to know, first and foremost, but may not read elsewhere: in that same news release, one of the authors shared that they were “focused on deaths to chronic diseases…” That’s right – due to chronic diseases. We’re talking diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Cause of death did not – and does not – equal beverage consumption of any kind.
