America’s leading beverage companies have set a goal to reduce beverage calories consumed per person by 20 percent by 2025.
President Bill Clinton, founder of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation, Susan Neely, president and CEO of the American Beverage Association, and Dr. Howell Wechsler, CEO of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, announced the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment today at the 2014 CGI Annual Meeting in New York City.
They were joined on stage by Wendy Clark, president, Sparkling Brands & Strategic Marketing, Coca-Cola North America, The Coca-Cola Company; Rodger L. Collins, president, Packaged Beverages, Dr Pepper Snapple Group; and Albert P. Carey, CEO, PepsiCo Americas Beverages, PepsiCo.
This partnership leverages the marketing, innovation and distribution strengths of America’s leading beverage companies to work toward a common goal of reducing beverage calories in the American diet. We are committed to providing consumers with more choices, smaller portions and fewer calories, and this initiative takes that to an ambitious new level.
At its core, this initiative is about providing consumers a range of beverage options, calorie information to help them make the choices that are right for them, and encouragement to help them balance all of their calories – including those from beverages – with daily physical activity.
This is the single-largest voluntary effort by an industry to help fight obesity and will transform the beverage landscape in America. And we’re proud to continue our successful partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and President Clinton and further our commitment to our consumers, by bringing meaningful solutions to families and communities nationwide.
