As Americans, we have the freedom to take part in our nation’s democratic process by voting. This is a freedom that many around the world are hopeful that they, too, may have one day – and it’s something that often brings immigrants to this country year after year as they seek a better life for themselves and their families.
But voting is also a civic responsibility. It’s important to be informed not only about the candidates on the slate, but also any local or statewide initiatives on the ballot. Seeking out information from your state or local board of elections is a good place to start – and they’re easy to find using a Google search.
We hope you may be one of the millions who have already cast your ballot, or perhaps you are one of the 90 million expected to do so today. Either way, whether you choose to support President Obama for a second term or help pave the way for Governor Romney to be the next resident (and president) of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, what matters is making your voice heard.
Wear your “I voted” sticker proudly!
