The beverage industry has a long history of working toward sustainable solutions, that’s why we are excited to announce that we have joined the newly formed U.S. Plastics Pact. Led by The Recycling Partnership, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the U.S. Plastics Pact is a collaborative, solutions-driven initiative bringing more than 60 brands, retailers, NGOs and government agencies together to unify on approaches to reduce the amount of plastic packaging and increase the amount of plastic that is recycled and remade into new products.
Working to achieve a circular economy for plastics is a goal that America’s beverage companies have heavily invested in. In fact, we launched our Every Bottle Back initiative in 2019 so more of our plastic bottles are recycled and remade into new bottles, as intended. And we’re carefully designing our plastic bottles to be 100% recyclable, including the caps. By working with trusted partners through the Every Bottle Back initiative and the U.S. Plastics Pact, we know that through these collaborative efforts, we can reduce plastic waste in the environment.
“Through collaboration and innovation, our industry is leading with better way solutions to create a circular economy for our plastic bottles while helping to eliminate plastic in the environment,” said Katherine Lugar, ABA president and CEO. “We look forward to sharing our ideas and experience in sustainability with U.S. Plastics Pact members as we work together toward effective and sustainable solutions. Our shared goal will help us realize a world where plastic doesn’t end up where it was never intended to be - in landfills, beaches, rivers and oceans.”
We cannot solve the challenges facing our environment alone, but by working with key environment partners, NGOs and governments, we can have a real and lasting impact on our environment.
