Just a few weeks ago, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America announced the six grant recipients of the 2017 Childhood Obesity Prevention Grants Program. The awards went to mayors across the country to support their commitment to fighting childhood obesity in their communities through new and existing programs.
Huntington, W.Va., Mayor Steve Williams received a $25,000 grant for The Wellness Academy at Huntington High School. Mayor Williams’ program engages the students of today as ambassadors to educate the community of tomorrow about how physical activity and good nutrition can lead to better overall health and lifestyle.
“I am a firm believer that our youngsters should be placed in positions to lead our community, and it is evident that the students in the Wellness Academy have the creativity and the passion to address this challenge,” says Mayor Williams.
We congratulate Mayor Williams and wish him much success with his Wellness Academy.
