Super Bowl LIV brought together more than 65,000 fans in Miami to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. As fans from across the county descended upon South Florida, the National Football League (NFL) partnered with Miami-Dade County to develop tactics and goals to be more environmentally conscious. Specifically, they announced the offering of more environmentally friendly options at the stadium and their goal to “ensure all disposed materials are diverted to a recycling facility or converted into renewable energy.”
America’s leading beverage companies applaud this effort by the NFL and Miami-Dade County. Our beverage containers are carefully designed to be 100% recyclable – even the caps. Our goal is for every bottle to become a new bottle, and not end up in oceans, rivers, beaches and landfills. And that also means we are using less new plastic.
Super Bowl LIV is a great example of what can be accomplished when industry and local municipalities partner together to develop new, innovative ideas to create a sustainable future for generations to come. America’s beverage companies are doing just that with its recently launched Every Bottle Back initiative.
Led by the American Beverage Association, The Coca-Cola Company, Keurig Dr Pepper and PepsiCo have partnered with World Wildlife Fund, the Recycling Partnership and Closed Loop Partners to increase the collection of our plastic bottles, decrease the use of new plastic and improve recycling infrastructure across the country.
Our hope is that Every Bottle Back, much like Super Bowl LIV’s sustainability efforts, will serve as a model of how to tackle the tough challenges of our recycling system and increase collection of valuable recyclables, like plastic bottles.
