Here at Sip & Savor, we love to get outside and enjoy the beautiful summer days. This time of year only helps to remind us about how important physical activity is to our overall health and wellness. We might not all be able to run a marathon or lift heavy weights, but one game that we found gives us a good workout is golf. It’s a game that requires core strength and a fair amount of mental focus. And, given that the game takes a lifetime to master, it’s an excuse to exercise that will stay with you for years to come.
While you are out on the course, why not take a moment to enjoy a beverage named after one of the golf greats – Arnold Palmer. One of the winningest golfers of all time, Mr. Palmer was a trailblazer in the sport. And at times, he’d mix himself a tall glass of 2/3 iced tea and 1/3 lemonade. As only Mr. Palmer could, he modestly has been quoted explaining the origin of the drink:
“The idea for the combination struck me after a round of golf in the [California] desert in the early '60s. I wanted something that would be refreshing and realized that lemonade would be a natural complement to iced tea, since most people add a lemon wedge to their tea. When I first started ordering the combination in Palm Springs, a sharp waitress caught on that it was my regular drink after a round of golf and started calling it an Arnold Palmer. I guess the patrons started asking for it at restaurants, which helped the name spread.”
So, get out there and try your hand at a decades-old tradition and pastime. And while you are making the turn onto the back nine, be sure to try out this innovative concoction – you can mix it yourself or even find pre-made versions from some of our member companies. And remember to hydrate before, during and after your game - no matter your sport or other physical activity of choice, it’s vitally important!
