In about a week and a half, the soda ban in New York City is scheduled to be implemented. A new poll we came across today shows that opposition to a New York style soda ban remains strong. In a public opinion survey from Reason Foundation, 71 percent of respondents said the sale of soft drinks larger than 16 ounces in theaters, restaurants and other venues should be allowed. Sixty-eight percent said banning large servings of soda is not an effective way to fight obesity.
This more proof that the soda ban continues to be exceedingly unpopular with New Yorkers. It increases the cost of doing business in the City and will have no impact on the Mayor’s stated goal of reducing obesity. New Yorkers can decide for themselves what to eat and drink.
