Last week, we alerted you to a new proposal floating around the D.C. City Council that would levy a penny an ounce tax on sugar-sweetened beverages, like teas, soft drinks, sports drinks and juice drinks.  We also told you about a growing group of concerned citizens, businesses, union workers and community organizations that is opposing this tax, and how to get more information about the No D.C. Beverage Tax coalition.

Today we wanted to let you know that many District residents are speaking out against this tax.  From the local corner markets to students at local universities, we're hearing the message loud and clear that folks in D.C. are tapped out and can't afford another tax.  People understand that this proposal is regressive, and will hurt those who can least afford it the most. Furthermore, that the tax is nothing more than a thinly veiled money grab by the D.C. government.
