As you may have recently read here at Sip & Savor, we once again joined the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) as they announced the winners of the 2014 Childhood Obesity Prevention Awards.  We are proud to support this initiative, which is helping communities – big and small – address tough issues in meaningful and pragmatic ways.

Today, we wanted to highlight the work of one such city – York, Pa. – the first place recipient in the small city category.  Through "Eat Play Breathe: York’s Childhood Wellness Initiative,” Mayor Kim Bracey is paving the way by educating children about the importance of balancing calories and engaging in regular physical activity as ways to achieve a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle.  Her program incorporates wellness into the mission and culture of each city school.  Specifically, the program increases nutrition education and physical activity in city schools, which will have a real and lasting impact for generations to come.  Click here to watch a video about this innovative program.
