We're just a few days into July and much of the east coast is indoors, sheltered from the high temperatures, trying to stay cool. Heat advisories are in effect for parts of the northeast and mid-Atlantic and temperatures are reaching record levels. This will also increase energy use as we rely on air conditioners and fans-something to keep in mind as we avoid the heat.
We at Sip & Savor feel it’s important to be aware of our environmental impact, something that our industry is constantly working to further minimize. So we thought we would share some tips to help you stay cool during the heat wave, some of which will also help you to lower your energy usage:
For the summer months, it’s usually recommended that you run your ceiling fan counterclockwise to distribute the air. Turn off and unplug unused electronic devices as they generate heat. If possible, stick to lower floors of your home since heat rises. Wear loose, lightweight and breathable clothing to easily aerate your body heat. Stay hydrated. Mint has a cooling sensation. Try lotions or soaps with mint or even flavored chewing gum.If these recommendations aren't helpful, The Onion, a satirical news publication, suggests purchasing a Celsius thermometer - the summer temps probably won't exceed 35 degrees!
