Sip & Savor is proud to recognize Hispanic Heritage Month, a time of year that's dedicated to celebrating the culture and traditions of citizens with origins from Spain and Mexico as well as the Spanish speaking nations of the Caribbean, Central and South America. The celebration began September 15 and runs through October 15. The holiday was first authorized by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968 as National Hispanic Heritage Week, and grew to a month long celebration in 1988.
You may have seen it being honored by the National Football League, who have been broadcasting team names in Spanish and dubbing football nights as "Futbol de Americano."
If you're looking for another way to get into the spirit of the month, how about checking out this recommended reading list from the "Just Read Families" organization? Or, of course, you could simply enjoy one of the many unique flavors offered by the beverage industry that are inspired by the wonderful flavors of the countries mentioned above. However you choose to celebrate the month honoring this important population of great Americans, we hope you enjoy these last few weeks. And remember keep checking back with us at Sip & Savor as we cover more fun and interesting topics. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month, America!
