Most of us have heard of Cinco de Mayo, but do you know what the celebrations are all about?
Cinco de Mayo - meaning literally the fifth of May - is a Mexican holiday celebrating the victory in 1862 of the Battle of Puebla over the French. This was a surprising success that has been likened to the match-up between David and Goliath and was so significant in Mexican history that it is still celebrated to this day.
Nowadays many observe Cinco de Mayo by celebrating with family, friends and neighbors. Keep in mind that there are many non-alcoholic beverages to pick when celebrating today. Have a fun and festive Cinco de Mayo!
