A new report entitled, "Feeding the Economy," is taking a look at the important role the agriculture and food sectors play in our nation's economy. It shows that together these sectors have an economic impact of $6.79 trillion, accounting for about 20 percent of the nation's economic activity. From farm and field to grocers' shelves, the restaurant table, and every step in between, the food industry is responsible for 43 million jobs, pays $1.9 trillion in wages, accounts for nearly $150 billion exports and nearly $900 billion in taxes paid.
The beverage industry is proud to be a major contributor to the food industry's overall economic impact. The beverage industry provides close to 240,000 jobs with a direct economic impact of $166.5 billion. From products in your neighborhood store to providing good-paying jobs and supporting local community initiatives, the industry's presence is felt in every community across the nation.
When you consider that the American food supply is the safest, most nutritious and affordable in the world, and then layer on this economic impact, it paints a prosperous picture of a crucial part of the fabric of America.
