Here at Sip & Savor, we recently blogged on how children of all ages perform better in school when they’re active. Unfortunately, only 6 states – Illinois, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New York and Vermont – require physical education in every curriculum.
At a recent American Heart Association meeting in Dallas, Texas, Grant Tomkinson presented research that shows that children globally are about 15 percent less aerobically fit than their parents. And in the United States, cardiovascular endurance in children declined about 6 percent per decade between 1970 and 2000.
We recognize that regular exercise is important to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. That’s why we are proud to support the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and its “Let’s Move! Active Schools” initiative.
So, when you are planning your holiday gatherings in the coming weeks, remember to include some physical activity along with your Thanksgiving dinner and holiday shopping.
