Yesterday at Moten Elementary School in the District of Columbia, members of the non-alcoholic beverage industry had the privilege of announcing support for DC SCORES expansion of after-school programming to more schools in Ward 8.  According to the organization’s website, DC SCORES “builds teams through after-school programs for over 800 low-income DC youth at 27 schools by instilling self-expression, physical fitness, and a sense of community.”

At the event, DC SCORES Executive Director Amy Nakamoto, D.C. Councilmember At-Large Michael Brown and American Beverage Association President and CEO Susan Neely spoke to a crowd of children who were anxiously awaiting the coin toss to kick off the first game of their season.  Also on-hand was Ellen Valentino, executive director of the D.C. Beverage Association, who was instrumental in developing this partnership.

Across the country, our industry and its employees are very involved in their local communities.  Here in our backyard of the nation’s capitol, the American Beverage Association and the D.C. Beverage Association are proud to support such a positive organization as DC SCORES.  We look forward to seeing even more smiling children’s faces out on the soccer field.
