Back in January, we highlighted the winners of the U.S. Conference of Mayors' 2014 Childhood Obesity Prevention Awards – specifically, a program from the first place recipient in the small city category – York, Pa. Through Mayor Kim Bracey’s “Eat Play Breathe: York’s Childhood Wellness Initiative,” children will be educated about the importance of balancing calories and engaging in regular physical activity as a way to achieve a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle. The program incorporates wellness into the mission and culture of each city school by increasing the students’ nutrition education and physical activity.
Earlier this week, Mayor Bracey officially accepted the grant for her program which will soon incorporate changes into York schools. Congrats to the City of York and Mayor Bracey!
