This month we celebrate Black History Month, also known as National African American History Month. Every February we celebrate achievements by black Americans and recognize the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. President Gerald R. Ford was the first to officially recognize this celebration in 1976 and every U.S. president following has done the same.

In September of 2016, the National Museum of African American History and Culture opened its doors in Washington and became the 19^th museum of the Smithsonian Institute. What better way to celebrate this month then to plan a trip!
