Today, we are proud to share a new educational video as part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness of the value of our industry’s 100% recyclable plastic bottles and remind consumers that our bottles are carefully designed to be remade into new bottles when collected.
The new spot, entitled “Back to One,” is part of our industry’s Every Bottle Back initiative, a groundbreaking effort with The Coca-Cola Company, Keurig Dr Pepper and PepsiCo to reduce our use of new plastic by increasing the amount of plastic bottles that are collected and remade. It takes viewers through the process of how a plastic beverage bottle is carefully designed to remain in the circular economy and be remade into a new one.
America’s beverage companies, in partnership with environmental leaders Closed Loop Partners (CLP), The Recycling Partnership (TRP) and World Wildlife Fund (WWF), launched Every Bottle Back in October 2019 to reduce the industry’s plastic footprint. Components of the initiative include consumer awareness efforts and targeted investments in communities across the country. This 10-year effort marshals the equivalent of $400 million to CLP and TRP through a $100 million industry fund that is matched three-to-one by other grants and investors.
During its first year, Every Bottle Back committed $10 million to support 11 community recycling projects estimated to collect 644 million more pounds of recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) that can be used to make new bottles. We’re already seeing progress with recycling modernization projects in Ann Arbor, Mich.; Broken Arrow, Okla.; Columbus, Ohio; Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas; and Kenosha, Wis.
These ongoing investments boost the collection of plastic bottles and prevent them from winding up where they were never intended through funding for curbside recycling carts, consumer education materials and the reopening or modernization of outdated recycling systems.
We look forward to announcing additional community recycling projects later this year and building on other consumer awareness efforts underway, like an on-pack message to remind consumers to please recycle our bottles and caps so they can be remade into new bottles.
It’s exciting to begin a new year with new and innovative ways to get our bottles back. We look forward to continuing our work alongside our great partners to support the circular economy, as well as to measure the industry's progress in reducing its plastic footprint.
