The Coca-Cola Company and PepsiCo were among several companies that met last week at the White House to announce new private-sector commitments that will reduce the use and emissions of greenhouse gases known as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).
These commitments will go a long way to achieve the White House aim of reducing the use of greenhouse gases worldwide. But America’s leading beverage companies have been doing this kind of thing voluntarily for years now. We have been continuously innovating and improving our energy efficiency - from inside our facilities, to our equipment in stores and our entire North American fleets.
Our leading beverage companies have made great strides in the last year alone to increase the use of HFC-free equipment throughout their systems. And we’ve laid out plans to continue this work throughout 2016 on the way to becoming 100% HFC-free in cooling equipment.
The beverage industry believes that the public and private sectors can have a significant impact on our environment by working together. We have built sustainable practices into our business models, and have gone beyond government mandates in some cases to do more than is required.
