From time to time, a study comes out that alleges there is something unique about beverages when it comes to dental health. This week is one of those times. The authors of a paper recently published in the journal General Dentistry have come to a conclusion that sports drinks and energy drinks are – get ready – “causing irreversible damage to the teeth of teens and young adults,” according to HealthDay News. How do they “know” this? Because they sliced up samples of tooth enamel from extracted molars – that’s right, dead teeth – and soaked them in petri dishes of liquid for extended periods of time.
