The American Beverage Association and the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America (ABFHA) are proud to be partners with the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) on their Childhood Obesity Prevention Grants Program. Over the last several years, the ABFHA and ABA have sponsored these grants to help fund obesity prevention programs in cities across the country. The partnership builds upon longstanding work by the beverage industry to support nutrition education for children, to strengthen communities and to empower consumers.
We are looking forward to continuing our positive relationship with USCM as they hold their 86th Annual Meeting in Boston, Mass. next week. Among the topics to be discussed will be infrastructure, cybersecurity, school safety, immigration, jobs, affordable housing and automation. But also at the meeting, USCM will kick off the application process for the next round of Childhood Obesity Prevention awards.
ABA will have an exhibit table at the meeting to encourage mayors and cities to apply for the awards. We will also display information and samples of the wide variety of zero- and reduced-sugar beverage choices our industry offers as part of our national initiative to encourage Americans to reduce the sugar and calories they consume.
American mayors obviously play an enormously important leadership role in their cities throughout the United States. They are not subject to the gridlock often experienced at many other levels of government. Their constituents demand quick action on issues that impact them on a daily basis. And many mayors have therefore benefited from the USCM Childhood Obesity Prevention awards to help tackle the challenge of obesity in their communities.
We greatly value this opportunity to work together with these strong leaders to address challenges in their communities and look forward to spending time with them in Boston! Find out more about the Childhood Obesity Prevention Program here.
