That means that starting tomorrow, families in the county will no longer need to shop outside county lines for their groceries in order to avoid the burden of the tax.

Consumers and businesses were quick to make their voices heard when the tax initially took effect in August. The message was clear and sent directly to County Commissioners, who imposed the tax on residents who were already faced with mounting taxes in the county. If the budget gap needed to be filled, it would not be done on the backs of the working-class families in Cook County.

The Chicago Tribune said of the tax repeal, “They heard from their constituents, loud and clear. They were reminded whom they work for, and they won’t soon forget. It’s a touchdown for accountability and a win for your wallet.”

Friday’s result is victory for the people of Cook County and the many small local businesses that will no longer be burdened with this poor policy.
