On this very day in 1932, Radio City Music Hall opened its doors to the public? Home to the “Rockettes” and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, this New York institution is an integral part of holiday cheer for New Yorkers, as well as visitors from across the country and around the world.
And just 34 years later on this day, international superstars The Supremes made their first appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show.” For our younger readers, the Motown signing group may ring a bell if you saw the film “Dreamgirls.”
On December 27, 1968, Apollo 8 ended its first orbital manned mission to the Moon, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.
On this day in 1982, the Sports Illustrated year-end double-issue came out, featuring hockey legend Wayne Gretzky as “Sportsman of the Year.”
